Children find this sport very exciting and can become quite competitive; we make every effort for it to be as enjoyable as possible and safe.

Children must be confident with the bow on the ground and have knowledge of what is involved, we also like to do a lot of balance work on a wooden horse before mounting the real thing.

Once ponies have become accustomed to the bow and arrows (ponies must be taught by an adult to become accustomed to the bow) children will be asked to perform various exercises for balance and to get the pony used to the change in weight which is associated with Horseback Archery.
When the pony and child can perform these various exercises and the pony except this, the introduction of the bow and blunt ended arrow can take place.
We do ask for parent's assistance for the help with managing the ponies; when first presenting the bow and other desensitising items, collecting arrows and setting up targets, it is not necessary but it helps to involve parents within the sport.

Juniors up to 18 years of age must be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian
NO Child can participate without the Parents/ Guardians signed and written consent. It is also compulsory for the child to wear a ridding helmet and a body protector along with ALL archery safety equipment (when the child and pony are confident the body protector may be able to be taken off - this must also be put in writing and signed by the parent or guardian)For more information about your children getting involved or having a go please Contact Us.
